2012 Peabody Awards
UGA is taking over the Big Apple today for the presentation of the Peabody Awards, the pre-eminent recognition in electronic media. This year's awards program is being hosted at the Waldorf=Astoria hotel in New York City by Sir Patrick Stewart, Peabody Award-winning star of stage and screen, Shakespearean plays and science-fiction blockbusters such as Star Trek: The Next Generation and the X-Men films.
Of all the awards in this business, the Peabody is the most coveted. Why? Because the sole criterion in excellence. There are not categories, no set number of winners, no rubrics. The judges spend a weekend together looking at hundreds of entries and they make their decisions. The ceremony, at the Waldorf+Astoria in New York City, is one of my favorite events of the year.
Just as excellence is the standard for the Peabody Awards, it is the standard for everything that we do at the University of Georgia. Our students, faculty, staff, alumni and the people of Georgia deserve nothing less.
