Move in Week 2012

Beginning Tuesday, the UGA campus, which has been relatively calm through summer school, will come back to full life with the arrival of some 7,000 campus residents, their parents, sibling and friends.  It is an exciting time, and one which requires a tremendous amount of coordination and planning.

Hunker Down With Housingwas initiated in 1998 and is designed to streamline the move-in process for students and their families. Approximately 275 UGA student, faculty and staff volunteers will be located across campus to greet those new and returning students and parents, provide directions to area parking lots, direct traffic and generally serve as a resource for residents and their families. These volunteers, along with staff members from Student Affairs, University Housing and others, offer a welcoming smile to go with strong arms and backs to help the students move into their residence halls.  It is a terrific way to welcome them to the UGA Family with a display of Bulldog spirit.

Sunday evening, we will hold the second annual Freshman Welcome in Sanford Stadium, capped off with the entire classing forming the “Power G” on the field for a commemorative photo.  After that, classes start on Monday and the real business of UGA is under way for the 211th year.
