Spring Break 2013
The month of March still roars in like a lion, as the saying goes, and this point of the spring semester is one of the most interesting and exciting times of the year at the University of Georgia. At this time of the year classes are in full swing; some 20,000 high school seniors anxiously await to learn if they will be admitted to UGA in the fall; the regular seasons of winter intercollegiate sports like men’s and women’s basketball and gymnastics are drawing to a close, while spring sports like baseball, softball, swimming, tennis and golf are just underway; the state’s legislature is in session; students are preparing to graduate and are interviewing for jobs or placements in graduate and professional programs; and student organizations, administrative units and academic programs are gearing up for the many exciting awards, recognition and end-of-year celebrations that take place each year to acknowledge the dedicated, hardworking members of this university community that make this environment so vibrant.
However, Spring Break is upon us, and this respite at the midpoint of the academic term gives many an opportunity to relax, explore, and recharge as we all head into the final weeks of the semester. Many students will take traditional trips to vacation spots to unwind. Many faculty and staff may also do the same with family and friends. Some use Spring Break as a time to study, rest, and even earn a little extra money, while still others dedicate their energies toward community service projects in their local community or in other places around the world.
Whatever the endeavor, I wish for each and all a safe, productive, and restful break. I look forward to when we all return and enjoy the final weeks of the Spring 2013 academic semester.
