Meet Dr. Adams
Dr. Michael F. Adams was named the 21st president of the University of Georgia on June 11, 1997. He immediately focused on securing UGA’s future as one of America’s premier public research universities. Under Dr. Adams’ leadership, student quality has risen steadily and the University of Georgia has been recognized as one of the nation’s top 20 public research universities for eight out of the past 10 years by U.S. News & World Report.
The health sciences campus opened on Monday, Aug. 6 for fall classes. The UGA Health Sciences Campus will accommodate two primary occupants: the College of Public Health and the GHSU/UGA Medical Partnership.
“The health of the public is a key mission for any land-grant institution today, and the UGA Health Sciences Campus represents a clear commitment to this mission,” said Adams.
The creation of the College of Engineering was unanimously approved by the University Council in April 2012. The college will draw faculty from UGA’s Faculty of Engineering, which was established in 2001 and received institute status with degree-granting privileges in 2003, and from the department of biological and agricultural engineering, which has been part of the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.
The First-Year Odyssey seminars are designed to introduce you to the academic life of the University of Georgia. These seminars will allow you to engage with faculty and other first-year students in a small class environment to learn about the unique academic culture the university offers. Faculty will share their passion for research, teaching and service as you begin your academic journey at UGA.
