Athletes at their best

Congratulations to former UGA golfer Bubba Watson for winning his second Masters championship on Sunday, April 13.  He led a group of UGA golfers who played quite well at the annual tournament in Augusta, giving the University some remarkable national and international exposure.

But that exposure is just one of the many benefits of intercollegiate athletics at the University of Georgia. Athletics plays an important role in the overall experience for students and serves as a connection between the institution and its alumni and friends.

Our Athletic Administration shares my belief in an athletic program that functions as a positive component of the entire UGA experience, not as a separate entity.  The UGA Athletic Association, for instance, endowed 21 professorships across the University and provides funding for many of our scholarships and need-based aid programs.

Athletics at the University of Georgia is one of the many things that helps maintain this institution as one of America’s best public universities.
