National rankings reflect commitment of students, faculty and staff

The good work of our students, faculty and staff continues to result in recognition of UGA by various magazines and other ranking organizations. While I am cautious about putting too much stock in any one ranking, UGA’s presence near the top of many lists in recent years speaks to the quality of the educational experience here.
In its 2014 “Best Colleges” issue, U.S. News & World Report ranks UGA #20 among public research universities, up from 21st last year. Washington Monthly has us at #2 on the “Bang for the Buck” list of value for tuition paid, and we are on the “Public Ivies” list for the second year in a row.
Recognitions such as these are pleasing, of course, but it is important to remember that recognition should flow from a commitment to mission, and that mission is to provide the best possible academic experience for our students in an environment that supports our faculty in their instruction, research and service functions. As long as we are focused on our mission, recognition will follow.
