The fall 2013 semester will come to a close on Friday, December 13, with two commencement ceremonies in Stegeman Coliseum.  Almost 1,700 students are eligible to participate in the undergraduate ceremony at 9:30 a.m., with Amy Glennon, a UGA alumna and the first female publisher of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, as the featured speaker.  At 2:30 that afternoon, some 500 graduate students will receive master’s, doctoral and specialist in education degrees during the graduate ceremony.  Dean Emeritus of the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication E. Culpepper Clark will deliver the address.

Ceremonies such as commencement are an important part of academic life.  We mark significant milestones in the life of the students and faculty by gathering in a common space to celebrate.  I look forward to these two ceremonies and the break that follows soon after, and I wish for you a peaceful holiday season.
