The University of Georgia has once again enrolled a record-setting class of first-year students. The approximately 5,300 freshmen arriving on campus next week have an average GPA of 3.91 and an average SAT of 1301—the highest scores in the University’s 230-year history.

More than 22,000 applicants competed for a spot in this fall’s incoming class, a four percent increase over last year. These students are attracted to UGA’s world-class learning environment with bold new initiatives to enhance undergraduate education.

Just two weeks ago, we were happy to announce a $4.4 million faculty hiring initiative to reduce class sizes in critical instruction areas and to increase students’ interaction with faculty.

Our experiential learning initiative, which will go into effect in fall 2016, is another way we are enriching undergraduate education. This initiative will provide all students with a high-impact, hands-on learning experience outside of the traditional classroom environment.

This year’s incoming class represents another strong signal that UGA is reaching new heights of academic excellence. We look forward to welcoming these bright students to campus.
