The Georgia Power Company has not only been providing electricity to Georgia for more than a century but also has been a longtime supporter of the state’s flagship institution. The University of Georgia proudly recognizes Georgia Power as one of its largest corporate partners.

Georgia Power’s support, which totals an astounding $13.3 million as of July 1, 2017, positively impacts UGA faculty, staff, and students on a daily basis. Its generous gifts are enhancing student learning and success and fueling innovative research that benefits the entire state.

This year, Georgia Power created an endowed scholarship through the University’s new Georgia Commitment Scholarship Program, designed to increase need-based aid for students.

“We are thrilled to become the first corporate partner to set up a Georgia Commitment Scholarship, ” said Chris Cummiskey, Executive Vice President of External Affairs at Georgia Power, “and we look forward to seeing the significant impact that need-based scholarships will continue to have on students at UGA.”

The company also is a member of the Corporate Partnership Program in UGA’s College of Engineering. Georgia Power has recently provided funding to recruit new students, support student design projects, and improve facilities. “We are especially looking forward to seeing the continued growth and development of the College of Engineering, ” Cummiskey said.

Georgia Power also has encouraged its employees to donate to UGA by matching employees’ gifts. Over the last eight years, Georgia Power Foundation’s gift matching program has contributed $123,640.

As one of UGA’s largest corporate partners, the impact of Georgia Power’s support stretches across campus. “Georgia Power is proud of its longtime partnership with the University of Georgia, ” said Cummiskey. “It’s an incredible way to make a difference in the state we serve.”
