UGA researchers are committed to uncovering how things work and how things can work better—from precision agriculture to disease treatments to sustainable solutions for our world.
The drive to discover and innovate is advancing the University’s progress in research and development expenditures. Funding from the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation has increased 65% over the last six years. Faculty research has led to hundreds of commercial products, placing UGA among the top five universities in the nation for new products reaching the market for eight consecutive years. And collaborations with industry partners are advancing technology and strengthening our economy.
The UGA Innovation District has continued to grow, expanding our startup pipeline and collaborative research efforts.
In December 2021, thanks to the generosity of The Delta Air Lines Foundation, we dedicated the Delta Innovation Hub, the Innovation District’s newest facility and home of our thriving startup program. The facility hosts innovation and entrepreneurship programs along with alumni- and faculty-owned startup companies.
This year, Truist Foundation and SunTrust Trusteed Foundations provided UGA with a $1.25 million gift to enhance collaborative spaces and support and develop programs, like the hugely successful Innovation Bootcamps, which engage entrepreneurs and small businesses in the UGA and Athens communities.
