Letter from the President

Thanks to the hard work of the University of Georgia community and strong support from our remarkable donors, the 2021-2022 school year was one of the best in our institution’s history. UGA faculty, staff, and students excelled across all areas of endeavor, from academics to athletics, as we continued to expand our impact on the state, nation, and world.

To promote excellence in teaching and learning, the University expanded active learning methods in classroom instruction and hired additional faculty and advisors in high-demand fields. Generous gifts elevated signature academic programs to new heights with the naming of the McBee Institute of Higher Education, the Carmical Sports Media Institute, and the Morehead Honors College. We also reached higher enrollment and graduation rates than ever before. In addition, new scholarships are helping UGA recruit and retain top graduate students, while programs like ALL Georgia are ensuring that more Georgians can access the world-class education we provide.

The University also grew research, innovation, and entrepreneurship on campus and throughout the state. We dedicated the Delta Innovation Hub, boosting our ability to work with industry and community partners to accelerate research commercialization, strengthen business engagement, and expand experiential learning. The Interdisciplinary STEM Research Complex began providing space for researchers to collaborate on products and solutions that address complex global problems. Newly endowed chairs and professorships are also bringing additional world-renowned scholars to UGA.

On behalf of our faculty, staff, and students, as well as all those we serve, thank you for investing in the University of Georgia.

President Jere W. Morehead

Our partnerships with communities across Georgia and around the world thrived as well. UGA’s annual economic impact on our home state reached a record $7.4 billion, and new outreach programs, such as PROPEL (Planning Rural Opportunities for Prosperity and Economic Leadership) and the Rural Engagement Research Program, enhanced our impact on Georgia. These and other initiatives are connecting UGA faculty and students to Georgia communities to improve health care, workforce development, and other critical areas.

Undergirding current and future achievements of the University are state-of-the-art facilities. Groundbreaking for the Poultry Science Complex, completion of the Experiential Learning Center at Wormsloe, and renovation of the Driftmier Engineering Center are just a few of the important capital projects advanced during the past year. In addition, we preserved significant aspects of our institution’s history as we began remodeling and restoring the iconic Holmes-Hunter Academic Building on North Campus.

This special moment in UGA’s history would not be possible without our loyal supporters. On behalf of our faculty, staff, and students, as well as all those we serve, thank you for investing in the University of Georgia. I hope you enjoy reading about these and other extraordinary achievements in the pages ahead.

Sincerely,
