The concept of American public higher education was first articulated in the 1785
charter for this university, and today UGA is one of the country’s best public research
universities. As an alumnus of the School of Law, I take great pride in that standing.
UGA is an institution of some 36,000 students whose academic quality rises every year.
The faculty are committed to excellent teaching, innovative research and scholarship,
and service in the land-grant tradition. I am honored to serve with them.
UGA is now the largest public research university in America to provide each undergraduate
student with an experiential learning opportunity. In addition, our talented students
compete with the very best for prestigious academic scholarships. Over the past 20
years, for example, UGA has produced 24 Rhodes Scholars—more than all but two other
public institutions in the nation.
The University of Georgia is a dynamic, exciting, meaningful place. Our campus is
one of the most beautiful in America, and I invite you to visit. If you are a prospective
student, please visit the Admissions website.
Thank you for your interest in the University of Georgia.
