This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Archway Partnership at the University of Georgia. This vital initiative connects Georgia communities with UGA’s vast network of resources to address critical needs and identify emerging opportunities for local development. Throughout its existence, the Archway Partnership has played a key role in solidifying the University of Georgia as a national leader in public service efforts. Earlier this year, UGA was named the recipient of the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities’ Innovation & Economic Prosperity Award due in part to the Archway Partnership’s tremendous impact on our state.
The Archway Partnership also offers our students real-world learning experiences that strengthen towns across Georgia. As just one example, UGA recently launched Look Ahead Georgia to connect current students with meaningful work by partnering with local businesses, governments, and nonprofits in existing Archway communities. By creating pathways for talented UGA students to return to and invest in their communities, this initiative supports long-term workforce development and fosters civic engagement and leadership.
I am grateful for the tireless efforts of the faculty, staff, and students who have played a role in the Archway Partnership’s success and for the meaningful impact it has had on countless communities over the past two decades. This initiative epitomizes the University of Georgia’s land-grant and sea-grant mission of teaching, research, and public service, and it has consistently shown what is possible when we harness UGA’s extensive supply of knowledge and resources to meet the needs of our state and its citizens. I look forward to seeing this transformational program continue to grow and create new opportunities in the years to come.
