Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, members of UGA’s Class of 2020 are successfully launching their careers after graduation. The latest career outcomes survey conducted by the Career Center at UGA found that 91% of our students who graduated between August 2019 and May 2020 were employed or attending graduate school within six months of graduation.
The Career Center, which helps students and alumni explore careers, find mentors, develop résumés and graduate school applications, and connect with employers has adapted its services to the new, virtual environment. During the past year, the Career Center held 14 virtual career fairs; orchestrated 27 Instagram Stories takeovers to highlight employers actively recruiting; and scheduled more than 16,000 virtual sessions between employers and students. In addition, more than 300 alumni participated in job search boot camps and support groups offered online by the Career Center.
UGA alumni are pursuing their careers and continuing their education around the world, with Class of 2020 graduates landing in 48 states and 33 countries. Still, 71% of full-time employed graduates from the Class of 2020 are making their homes in Georgia, helping to grow our state’s economy. I am certain that, wherever they are, these alumni are using their education to improve lives and strengthen communities, and they are making their alma mater proud as they demonstrate the tenacity and resilience of the Bulldog Nation.
