As we close the door on another wonderful calendar year at the University of Georgia, I would like to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude to our faculty, staff, students, alumni, and friends for making 2018 a year to remember. We all can be proud of UGA’s many accomplishments. Among them:

  • Enrolling the most academically qualified class of first-year students in our history and raising completion rates to record levels;
  • Leading the nation in new research-based products reaching the marketplace;
  • Garnering national recognition for our public service and outreach in rural Georgia;
  • Achieving our highest ranking ever in U.S. News & World Report at No. 13 among publics;
  • Setting a new record in annual fundraising and establishing 335 Georgia Commitment Scholarships since this program was announced;
  • Creating new programs, such as ALL Georgia, and hiring additional faculty and advisors to further increase student success;
  • Completing construction and renovation of several facilities in Athens, Griffin, and Tifton to support our teaching, research, outreach, and athletic programs;
  • Breaking ground on the Interdisciplinary STEM Research Building to continue expanding our research enterprise;
  • Winning two NCAA championships in track and field and having a UGA student-athlete named NCAA Woman of the Year.

These and many other achievements in 2018 were made possible by the hard work and dedication of the entire UGA community. Thank you for your commitment to expanding the positive impact of this institution on our state, nation, and world.

I wish each of you a joyful and restful holiday season, and I look forward to cheering on the Bulldogs with you as we return to the Sugar Bowl on New Year’s Day.
