Conducting groundbreaking research to meet the grand challenges of our time is central to the University of Georgia’s land-grant mission. The completion of the first phase of the new Interdisciplinary STEM Research Complex, dedicated on Nov. 30, reflects UGA’s commitment to interdisciplinary approaches that are essential to addressing complex, global problems.
The I-STEM Research Building 1 comprises 100,000 square feet of state-of-the-art laboratory and support space for 30 faculty members and 100 graduate students in chemistry and engineering. This impressive facility was purposefully designed to enable researchers in these and other STEM disciplines to collaborate more effectively and creatively than ever before in areas ranging from next-generation biofuels to medical robotics.
We are grateful to our state leaders for their strong support of research and education in the STEM disciplines at the University of Georgia. Facilities such as the I-STEM Research Complex enable us to recruit and retain the very best faculty and graduate students, who are strengthening UGA’s research enterprise while creating products and solutions that improve our quality of life in Georgia and beyond.
