University of Georgia alumni living throughout the nation and around the world are bound by a common thread—they love this institution. Engaged alumni support academic initiatives, provide personal and professional networks to students and fellow graduates, and create a welcoming global family.
As I meet with alumni throughout Georgia and the nation, their commitment to this institution is evident. Alumni engagement radiates across campus as well. Recently, our alumni packed Sanford Stadium to support the football team in its annual G-Day game. Alumni and friends will gather on campus again this weekend for the 2016 Alumni Seminar, at which they will hear from UGA faculty, students, and alumni whose accomplishments have made headlines around the world.
Our alumni are passionate about giving back to UGA and helping to shape the future of this institution. As the fiscal year comes to an end, we are on pace to set a new record for annual fundraising, with alumni leading the way. I was pleased to participate in Thank a Donor Day on campus recently, when our current students took time to say thank you to our alumni and friends for their generous support.
The engagement of our alumni and the vitality of the University of Georgia go hand in hand. We will achieve a significant milestone when our alumni population exceeds 300,000 for the first time as the Class of 2016 graduates this May. As the UGA family continues to grow stronger, there has never been a better time to be a Georgia Bulldog.
