A groundbreaking ceremony this week for the Poultry Science Complex kicked off a new era of advancement for the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and the Department of Poultry Science. As a land-grant institution, UGA is committed to helping our state’s poultry industry thrive. The construction of a new Poultry Science Complex embodies this commitment by providing facilities for educating future poultry industry leaders and advancing research to improve poultry production and safeguard this important food source and economic driver.

Georgia is the top producer of broilers in the United States, and it ranks sixth in the nation for egg production. Within Georgia, poultry makes up the largest segment of the agriculture industry, contributing nearly $23 billion to our state’s economy and providing jobs for 88,000 Georgians. Through more than a century of excellence in research, teaching, and outreach, the UGA Department of Poultry Science has helped make our state’s poultry industry what it is today.

The $54.1 million Poultry Science Complex will solidify the University of Georgia as a global leader in poultry science and ensure a bright future for this vital field. Comprising more than 70,000 square feet, the new facility will offer state-of-the-art instructional, lab, and meeting spaces; provide centralized, student-focused facilities; and help attract and retain world-class researchers. We are deeply grateful to our state leaders and the generous donors who are making this significant project possible.
