As students graduate from high school and begin their college careers, they are often faced with challenges that include living on their own for the first time, meeting new people, and charting a path for their upcoming academic journey. At the University of Georgia, we are committed to supporting students as they navigate these exciting milestones and ensuring they have the necessary resources to succeed during their time on campus.
For more than 25 years, Dawg Camp has offered incoming first-year students the chance to expand on the knowledge learned at New Student Orientation while being exposed to student life, exploring common college transition topics, and participating in fun and dynamic activities. Students have the option to choose from six unique camps with themes ranging from innovation and entrepreneurship to campus traditions and community involvement. Over the course of a week, students learn about UGA’s expansive offerings while forging lasting bonds with their peers. Dawg Camp Counselors play an integral role in this process: as UGA upperclassmen who are heavily involved on campus, they mentor participants and help them thrive in their first year and beyond.
The impact of initiatives like Dawg Camp and so many others has been remarkable, as UGA continues to excel in measures of student success and career outcomes. I am grateful to our devoted faculty and staff who consistently prioritize our outstanding students as they develop into the next generation of leaders.
