Last week, the University of Georgia dedicated the new UGA Track and Field Complex on South Milledge Avenue. On the heels of the women’s track and field team securing its first national championship last year, this world-class facility will elevate the performance of our outstanding student-athletes and serve as a tremendous resource for Athens-Clarke County and communities throughout the state.
Spanning more than 37 acres and featuring 34,700 square feet of facilities, this extraordinary complex places UGA among the premier track and field destinations in the country. The facility includes the Spec Towns Track, a nine-lane 400-meter track with areas dedicated to jumping events, as well as a world-class throwing area, five indoor warm-up lanes, and a 110-meter training hill.
Most importantly, the new facility was intentionally designed to feature amenities that will cater to competitors, spectators, and community members alike. The complex will provide a significant boost to the local economy as it hosts future events, including the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) State Track Meet in May 2026 and the SEC Championships in 2027, as well as several UGA home meets.
The Track and Field Complex was made possible through the support of state and local officials, the UGA Athletic Association Board of Directors, campus partners, and the ongoing generosity of our loyal alumni and friends. This facility marks the beginning of a new chapter for UGA Track and Field, and I look forward to the many ways in which this new facility will inspire excellence in the years to come.
