At the University of Georgia, we are committed to tackling society’s greatest challenges through innovative research. Guided by our land-grant and sea-grant mission, UGA continues to improve lives and strengthen communities in our state and beyond thanks to groundbreaking discoveries with far-reaching impact.

This past year, propelled by the tremendous work of our faculty, UGA surpassed $600 million in research and development expenditures for the first time in our institution’s history. The $628.1 million in total expenditures represents a 10 percent increase from the previous fiscal year, and a 77 percent increase over the last decade.

During that time, we have undertaken several initiatives to further enhance our excellent faculty, including targeted hiring in fields of strategic importance such as Brain and Behavioral Health, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, Electric Mobility, and Integrative Precision Agriculture. Thanks to the generosity of our loyal alumni and friends, we also have greatly increased the number of endowed faculty positions, from 229 in 2014 to our current total of 391.

As the University of Georgia’s research capacity continues to expand thanks to the remarkable innovation ecosystem among faculty, students and industry partners, we are further solidifying UGA’s reputation as one of the top public research institutions in the nation.
