Each November, the University of Georgia hosts Spotlight on the Arts, a monthlong festival celebrating the visual, performing, and literary arts. This year’s festival features more than 60 performances, exhibitions, and discussions, including numerous appearances by Grammy, Oscar, and Pulitzer Prize-winning artists and authors. Just as importantly, Spotlight on the Arts gives our talented students and faculty a chance to showcase their research and creative works.

The 2023 Spotlight on the Arts festival also caps a yearlong celebration of the Georgia Museum of Art’s 75th anniversary. Created by the largest-ever gift of art to a southern university at the time, the Georgia Museum of Art is both an academic museum and the official state art museum of Georgia. Thanks to generous contributions from alumni and friends throughout its history, the museum’s collection now includes more than 17,000 objects and has grown into one of the nation’s most important museums located on a university campus.

The University of Georgia has long been shaped and enriched by the visual, performing, and literary arts. As the flagship institution in our state, we are proud to offer so many opportunities to engage our campus and broader communities in these fields. I am grateful to the UGA Arts Council for sponsoring the Spotlight on the Arts festival and for promoting arts research, practice, and engagement across our campus and beyond.
