Increasing the number of endowed faculty positions is critical to expanding UGA’s research enterprise and our impact as a university. The reason is simple. Endowed chairs and professorships enable the University of Georgia to recruit and retain the most productive and successful faculty in the world.

Thanks to the remarkable generosity of our alumni and friends, 102 endowed faculty positions have been created since I took office as President in July 2013, bringing the total number to 327, an increase of 44%. It is no surprise that as the number of these positions has grown at UGA in recent years, our university’s research expenditures also have grown to record levels, and we have risen in the rankings of the best public universities in the nation, securing a spot in the top 20 for the past six consecutive years.

With every additional endowed chair and professorship established at UGA, we strengthen our vibrant academic community, advance teaching and learning on our campus, and drive our vital research enterprise forward. I am grateful for our alumni and friends’ commitment to this goal as we work together to elevate the University of Georgia to new heights of excellence.
