Service is central to the University of Georgia’s mission and a pillar of our motto, “to teach, to serve, and to inquire into the nature of things.” Our alumni carry this commitment into their communities, extending UGA’s efforts to improve lives and lift up those in need. Their commitment was on vivid display recently when UGA alumni chapters nationwide participated in community service projects through the Dawg Day of Service initiative.
Dawg Day of Service mobilizes UGA graduates to address needs in their respective communities, with each alumni chapter selecting a local charity or cause to benefit. This month, Dawg Day of Service events were held virtually in cities across the U.S. Our alumni contributed food items to local food banks, volunteered at animal shelters, and invested time and resources to support children with developmental needs, among other important causes. They also helped current UGA students by supporting campus organizations such as the Student Supplies Closet, which provides school-related items to students in need.
I am proud of the UGA alumni who devoted their time and resources to serving others through Dawg Day of Service. They are carrying on UGA’s land-grant tradition of public service and amplifying the impact of their alma mater throughout the nation.
