The research enterprise continues to surge at the University of Georgia as faculty across all 17 schools and colleges seek to leverage their expertise to make a difference in the world around us.
For the fourth consecutive year, total research and development expenditures—one measure of productivity—rose in FY17, reaching an all-time high of $458 million. The record total represents a 31 percent increase in R&D expenditures since FY13. Remarkable growth in funding from external grants and contracts is driving this surge, which comes at a time when research funding at many institutions has been stagnant or in decline.
Expenditures, however, only tell a small part of the story. The true impact of UGA’s thriving research enterprise can be seen around the globe, where our discoveries and advancements are being applied to improve human health, safeguard and sustain our world, and promote economic development.
