Earlier this month, the University of Georgia opened the academic year by welcoming the Class of 2029 to campus. Comprised of more than 6,200 first-year students, the newest group of Bulldogs is among the most academically qualified classes in UGA’s history. They enter with an average of 11 Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate or dual-enrollment courses; an average high school GPA of 4.17; an average ACT score of 31; and an average SAT score of 1356.

As Georgia’s flagship institution, we also are exceptionally proud that the Class of 2029 features students from 463 Georgia high schools and represents 142 of 159 counties throughout our state. These talented first-year students become the newest members of UGA’s world-class learning community—a community that will provide essential support as our students strive to reach their academic and professional goals.

Student success is at the heart of everything we do, from innovative active learning techniques and study abroad opportunities to personalized academic advising and scholarship support. Thanks to these initiatives and the tireless efforts of our faculty and staff, UGA is one of nine public universities in the nation with a six-year graduation rate above 90%, and 95% of our students are employed or continuing their education within six months of graduating.

As the semester gets underway, I am confident that the Class of 2029 will take advantage of all that the University of Georgia has to offer, and I look forward to watching as they inspire lasting change as leaders on our campus, in our state, and throughout the world.
